About American Alligators:

The American Alligator is a large reptile native to the southeastern United States, inhabiting freshwater swamps, marshes, rivers, and lakes from North Carolina to Texas. Adult males can grow up to 15 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds, though most are 10-12 feet! Alligators are apex predators with one of the strongest bite forces in the animal kingdom—up to 2,125 pounds per square inch, strong enough to crush a turtle's shell. They're ambush hunters, waiting motionless in the water before exploding into action to catch fish, turtles, birds, and mammals. Alligators are "ecosystem engineers" that dig "gator holes" which provide water for other animals during droughts. Despite their fearsome reputation, alligators are caring parents—mothers guard their nests for 65 days and gently carry hatchlings to water in their mouths! Baby alligators make high-pitched chirping sounds, and mothers respond to their calls. Alligators were once endangered due to hunting but have made a remarkable recovery thanks to conservation efforts. They can live 30-50 years in the wild and are important symbols of wetland conservation!

Manufactured in China. CollectA's Wildlife Series celebrates wetland reptiles and conservation success stories. Jack's has a long standing history of being a Blue Ribbon Breyer dealer since 1994. Ages 3+
